The Effect of Acupuncture Therapy on Blood Sugar in Diabetes Mellitus Patients at the Non-Infectious Polyclinic of Cimpaeun Health Center

Introduction: Diabetes Mellitus is one of the main threats to human health in the 21st century. Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a disease whose prevalence continues to increase in both developed and developing countries in the world, so it is said that DM has become a global health problem or social disease. Data obtained from medical records of patients undergoing outpatient care because the therapy process in patients undergoing outpatient care at the Cimpeun Health Center is more controlled and the progress of therapy can be observed properly. This health center has quite complete health facilities and infrastructure, both work rooms, services and rooms for outpatients and laboratories.
Methods: This study uses a one-group pre-post-test design approach to show causal relationships by involving groups of subjects.
Results: After being given acupuncture therapy, it was known that most respondents had a moderate blood sugar level category of 19 people (63.3%) and respondents who had a bad blood sugar category after being given acupuncture therapy were 11 people (36.7%). From the Wilcoxon statistical test, the probability value was obtained (p = 0.001) <(a = 0.05) so H1 was accepted.
Conclusion: There is an effect of acupuncture therapy on reducing blood sugar levels in DM patients. Acupuncture therapy can be applied at home to Diabetes Mellitus patients as an intervention to reduce blood sugar levels.
